What is the ISAAC Forum?
ISAAC — the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication — is the global organisation for the AAC field, bringing together people who use AAC, their families, clinicians, researchers, educators and manufacturers from around the world.
The ISAAC International Forum is something new: a two-day, in-person event created as a fresh way for the AAC community to meet between ISAAC's biennial world conferences. The very first Forum will take place in Zagreb on 19 and 20 October 2026, immediately before ATAAC.
The Forum is developed, sponsored and managed by ISAAC. Its programme is built around extended sessions — the kind of format that gives you room to go deep on a topic rather than skim it.

David BanesSessions include comprehensive literacy instruction for multi-level groups of learners using AAC, building language and communication skills with children who need or use AAC, principles for advancing communication access for children with disabilities, a universal approach to AAC intervention in schools, and a panel discussion on artificial intelligence in AAC.
ATAAC and ISAAC, side by side
We are genuinely delighted that ISAAC chose Zagreb for its first International Forum, and that it sits right alongside ATAAC. The two events are partners: ISAAC shapes and runs the Forum, ATAAC hosts the professional and scientific conference that follows, and we promote each other's work because we are all trying to do the same thing — put good assistive technology and good communication support into the hands of the people who need it.
For everyone travelling to Croatia this October, that partnership has a very practical result. Instead of choosing between two events on two continents, you get both in the same week, in the same city.
A combined ticket is available. ISAAC offers registration options that cover both the ISAAC Forum and the ATAAC Conference, for ISAAC members and non-members alike. Early bird pricing for the Forum runs until 30 September 2026, and reduced rates are available for people who use AAC, students, retired professionals and participants from developing countries.
Why we hope you will join both
- One trip, four days. The same flight, the same hotel, twice the programme. For anyone travelling internationally, this is the most efficient AAC week of the year.
- Two formats that complement each other. The Forum gives you long, focused sessions with leading experts. ATAAC gives you breadth — lectures, hands-on workshops, posters, and an exhibition area where you can actually try the technology.
- The people. Between the two events you will meet colleagues from more than fifty countries. Some of the best things that come out of a conference happen in the corridor, over coffee, or at dinner afterwards.
- Zagreb in October. A walkable, welcoming city at its best time of year — and an easy one to add a day or two to.
